Surprada offers boutique countryside stays nestled in the foothills of the Serra Gardunha mountains. Grounded in the aspiration to deliver relaxing, immersive experiences in nature, Surprada caters to travellers looking to unwind and slow down in a restorative setting as well as those looking to learn, explore, and engage in activities on our working farm.
The 6-hectare property features an extensive orchard with a variety of trees (olive, orange, persimmon, lemon, pomegranate, pear, apple and more), two ponds, an organic vegetable garden, and a winding stream along its perimeter that is perfect for passing time in the shade on a hot summer afternoon. The pool area features a 15x4m saltwater pool, outdoor kitchen, bathroom, and dining area.

Surprada is a 6-hectare working family farm consisting of a guest house, main house, barn, and swimming pool. The property is fully fenced, and is lined by a peaceful, winding stream featuring Roman stonework. There are two ponds on the quinta, which are home to many local fauna. The Surprada Family
The Surprada family consists of Callie (Swiss/American) and Benoît (Swiss/French), a happy troupe of chickens, ducks, and guinea pigs, and three friendly quinta dogs: Pépé (the Havanese), Rex and Suki (the Serra da Estrelas). Between us, we speak English, French, Spanish, German, and Portuguese. The property is an active working farm so we spend a lot of time outside but we value our guests’ privacy. Our goal is for visitors to feel at home at Surprada and to design their stay accordingly–whether that means participating in daily activities or slowing down and enjoying some alone time in a beautiful setting.
Sustainability at Surprada
Sustainability is central to Surprada’s design and functioning. The guest house is custom-designed by Boa Safra, a leading Portuguese design firm specializing in natural materials and the fusion of ecological, ethical and aesthetic principles. Its furnishings, hand-selected by our partners at Cobblestone Avenida, are entirely comprised of sustainable Portuguese brands, helping to connect our guests with their concept of “ethical design for beautiful living.”
We also do not use any chemicals on the property, including in the garden and natural saltwater pool. We prioritize natural, biodegradable household cleaning products and provide guests with a curated selection of high-end, sustainable bath products to minimize our environmental impact.
In line with the property’s ethos as a “living lab,” we are constantly exploring ways to lower the farm’s ecological footprint through new methods, technologies, and approaches that can help us maintain balance with the natural world around us.
Luxury One Bedroom Guesthouse
Our luxury one bedroom guesthouse features a king-sized bed with organic cotton linens, bathroom with rain shower, an inviting living-room with an antique fireplace, and a fully equipped kitchen outfitted with SMEG appliances.
The house is furnished with the very best of sustainable Portuguese design, providing guests with a taste of the country’s craftsmanship and growing commitment to ethical living. From the furniture to the ceramics and decor, it boasts a collection of products and brands that have been hand-selected for their aesthetic and sustainability.
The bedroom and living room open to a spacious terrace with an outdoor dining area and sweeping sunset views over the Gardunha mountains. The house is situated overlooking the property’s olive orchard, as well as its pond, which is home to the farm’s ducks and chickens.
Guests are invited to enjoy the grounds of the farm, collecting fresh eggs in the morning, harvesting fruit from the trees or visiting the vegetable garden to select ingredients for their dinner.

What is the best way to access Surprada?
Surprada is best reached by car but there are reliable bus and train connections from both Lisbon and Porto and we can pick guests up at any of the nearby stations with advanced planning. We are located 2 hours 20 minutes from Lisbon airport and 2 hours 50 minutes from Porto airport.
How many people does the guest house accomodate?
The guest house sleeps two adults.
Can I bring my pet?
Because the property has our three free-roaming dogs on it, we are unfortunately unable to accommodate external pets. Our dogs are very friendly and social and will likely come spend time with you if you enjoy their company.
